The MUST SEE show of this season is . . . NO EXODUS. NO EXODUS is a brilliant new two man comedy about God and Moses. It's by someone I never heard of (Sloan MacRae) starring two actors I never heard of in a theater I never heard of, but now will never forget! It's 1 hour and 15 minutes (with intermission!) of PURE GOLD. It is the funniest piece of theater since the second act of NOISES OFF. When you go mining through off-Broadway as often as we all do, you sometimes hit the mother lode. Last season we found it in I AM MY OWN WIFE. This season, we have found it in NO EXODUS. If I were a Broadway Producer, I would have called my most airtight contract lawyer at intermission and told him to get over here right away and lock down the rights to NO EXODUS. I would also want him to lock in the two actors and the director. And, if I could swing it, I would also nail down the film rights. If I were a Movie Producer, I would have called my most airtight contract lawyer DURING the first act and had him fly in on the next plane to lock down the movie rights to NO EXODUS. If I were Robin Williams, I would have called my agent and have him lock down the movie rights to NO EXODUS to guarantee that I would play Moses in the movie. I would then have called up Jim Carrey for God. If I were Jim Carrey, I would have called my agent and have him lock down the movie rights to NO EXODUS to guarantee that I would play God in the movie. I would then have called up Robin Williams for Moses. This show is what makes sitting through all the other stuff worthwhile. The play is so brilliantly funny, that we, the audience, were still laughing when the intermission ended and the second Act of God started. The direction is marvelous and if they have awards for off-off broadway shows, the guy who plays Moses (George Deihl) should win one if there is a God (wonderfully played by Patrick C. Tansor). Anyone who has ever heard of that little book called THE BIBLE will love this show. The audience appeal for this is SO wide, even Riedel will be begging to invest. I want to thank theOtherJames and his frugaltheatergoers website for guiding me to this show which cannot be found on Telecharge, nytheatre.com or even a google search. But the "playbill" does list a website where you can find it, epiphanytheater.org. I only have three regrets about this show. First, I have no stake in this at all! Second, Hollywood is going to by-pass the two great actors and cast BIG Names in the movie. And third, I have NO stake in this AT ALL ! :( It's only scheduled to play weekends through 11/22. But something tells me NO EXODUS is making NO EXODUS from the John Houseman anytime soon. I would advise catching this while it is still only $15 !!!! And in the interest of full disclosure, while there is no nakedidity, George Diehl does spend a good amount of time in a loincloth proving that when not hanging out with God, you can definitely find him in a gym. 2003. What a year for off-Broadway. I AM MY OWN WIFE, BERNADETTE AND THE BUTCHER OF BROADWAY (BTW it's back at The Duplex on Wednesday's at 7:00 during November! I already made reservations for my return trip! It's a MUST if you watch Theater Talk), and now NO EXODUS!!! I am still in shock! What a year for off-broadway! |
