Directing Development Program - FAQ

  1. I just finished my MFA in Directing; does this program make sense for me? Yes! Reactionaries Directors have numerous opportunities to meet and work with emerging playwrights in the Reactionaries Writers program. It is our hope that these early relationships will form the basis of life-long collaborations. In addition, Epiphany staff is always on the lookout for ways to promote Reactionaries Directors by nominating them for fellowships and funding, and recommending them for jobs at other companies.
  2. I just finished a BA in theater. Do I need a BFA or MFA to participate? No. While most of the Reactionaries Directors will have BFAs and MFAs specifically in directing, the only requirement for consideration is a degree in theater.
  3. A ten year program? That seems like a long time. A director's career development is a slow process. We define "early career" as the first 10 years of a career and we are committed to supporting artists through that whole period. It is our assumption that many of the Reactionaries Directors will work with Epiphany in other capacities as well (directing productions and workshops, being nominated for awards and fellowships and participating in other programs).
  4. What is my commitment? What if I leave New York before the program is over? We understand that in the first ten years of a career there is tremendous uncertainty. At any time a Reactionary may leave the program.
  5. What's the yearly fee for? The yearly fee will cover the costs of program administration, space for workshops, and expert lecturers and master classes.
